Unlike the T-64, the T-72 was widely exported and licensed in many countries around the world. The main manufacturer of this tank for the Soviet Army was the Nizhny Tagil plant "Uralvagon Zavod". For this reason, it uses, for example, an engine with a much less avant-garde design or a more classic armor (especially in the first production series). The T-72 tank was created as a specific addition to the T-64 and was supposed to be a less technological machine, although it would meet the requirements of the battle, and at the same time be cheaper in mass production. The main armament was the 125mm 2A46M smoothbore gun, with additional armament being the 7.62mm PKT machine gun and the 12.7mm NSW machine gun. The drive was provided by one W-46 engine with a capacity of 780 hp. The combat mass of the T-72B version reached 44.5 tons. It is estimated that at least 20,000 examples of this car were produced, although it should be added that these are minimum estimates. The first prototypes of this car were built in 1967-1972, and the car entered service in 1973. The T-72 is a Soviet and Russian main battle tank of the Cold War and modern times.
